Berkshire fell to their first defeat in just over 2 years at the hands of a strong Slough side. Debuts were handed to Matty Richards, Chris Warner and Alex Dockery with Daniel Vaughan becoming Berkshires youngest ever player replacing Pete Colvin who was away at MTS in goal.

The game started at a frantic pace with Alex Dockery and Matt Mylonas causing problems with their pace. Alex Mylonas was often left up front on his own as Berkshire tried to swamp the strong slough midfield. After two Fantastic saves, Vaughan was finally beaten on around 15 minutes. Slough moved down the right flank and despite an offside appeal being waved away, were awarded a corner. From the corner Nathanel headed home. Sloughs lead was doubled 5 minutes later and Slough added a third just before half time. Despite playing some good football Berkshire just couldn’t deal the killer blow.

At half time Matt Mylonas was taken off and replaced by P Warner. As the second half went on the pace of the game calmed down. Higgins, sam Carrol and Jo Carrol got stuck in when they could and tried to create chances. At the back Donna did well to push forward where possible and the back three of Warner C, Carroll r, and Richards showed courage and spirit.

Berkshire were finally awarded for their efforts on around 65 minutes. Matt Richards centre was nodded down by P Warner on the edge of the area, Alex Dockerys’ cross-shot was parried by Greenaway in the Slough goal and Alex Mylonas poked the ball home.

As the second half progressed slough took advantage of the tiring Berkshire legs and scored two more on the break. It could have been more had Vaughan not made a string of fine saves.

Warner P and J Carrol both shot just wide, but Berkshire just couldn’t quite get it right in the final third.

Despite the defeat its worth a mention that at least 6 berks players were carrying injurys going in to the game and did well to even complete the 90 minutes. Nobody could fault the commitment of any of the players today with the best performances probably coming from the full-backs Chris Warner and Matty Richards who were just pipped in my opinion for the man of the match award by Vaughny in goal. .
